We Need Your Help!

It will take a community to come together and help us clear our waterways to insure water can safely move within the creek walls, avoiding homes and roadways. Let's work together to clear our creek! Contact us today or signup to volunteer on a planned cleanup day!

Lyle Creek Clean Up Project

Volunteers & Sponsors Needed!

Conover Community Partners is leading a Creek Cleanup Project to reduce flooding in the NW Conover area by clearing debris from Lyle Creek. Overflow from storms has increasingly damaged homes and roads—but together, we can change that.

Thanks to a generous grant from the NC Community Foundation and support from local volunteers and Redline Dirtworks, we're already making progress!

The Plan:
From 2025–2027, we aim to clear 0.25+ miles of creek per year—removing litter, storm debris, fallen trees, and overgrowth. If successful, we’ll expand the project beyond the current section.

We Need Your Help!
  • Volunteers (ages 8+, under 18 must bring an adult)

  • Chainsaw or machinery operators welcome

  • All participants must sign a waiver

  • Please note the location on signup as this will shift as we make progress

  • Lunch is provided on cleanup days!

Sponsors Needed:
  • Help fund professional debris removal

  • Donate supplies: gloves, safety gear, tools, or food for volunteers

  • All donations are tax-deductible!

  • Make Donations on our "Become a Partner" page--be sure to note Lyle Creek Cleanup as the Specific Event/Project

👏 Special thanks to Catawba County, City of Conover, and Keep Catawba County Beautiful for their ongoing support.

Background and Frequently Asked Questions

Over the last decade the number of homes that have experienced flooding due to the overflow of Lyle Creek has increased, specifically in the northwestern quadrant of the City of Conover. With limited resources, residents and the city have been unable to address this concern, leaving homes and roadways compromised by rising waters with rain events lasting more than 2 days.

In response to these concerns, Conover Community Partners started to plan several Creek Cleanup events to occur throughout 2025-2027 with the goal of clearing 0.25 miles of creek per year. If the project remains successful it will continue beyond the targeted section. In the project's planning stage, CCP received a generous grant from the North Carolina Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund due to the disastrous effects Hurricane Helene had on the creek and the impending threat it is to surrounding residents and roadways. These funds will be used to cover most of the expense of hiring professionals who are licensed/insured to remove large debris that private citizens don’t have the ability to remove.

We need the help of our community to make this project a success!

Details about Volunteering:

Volunteers will work to remove natural and unnatural debris from the creek. This includes litter, large debris that has been lost in flooding (playsets, trampolines, tires, etc), tree trunks, dead vegetation, overgrown vegetation that blocks water from moving will also be removed.

Strict rules are in place to preserve and protect the creek which will be observed at all times!

Volunteers 8+ are welcome, anyone 8-17 must have an accompanying adult and all participants will sign a waiver of liability.

Volunteers with chainsaw experience are welcome! We also welcome volunteers with previous tree removal experience and access to large machinery that could assist the project. If either of these apply to you please contact Mandy before cleanup days.

How are Donated Funds Being Used?

Larger debris and vegetation will require the help of professionals who are insured. Donated funds allow us to hire these services, maintaining volunteer groups for the smaller tasks in the cleanup.

Sponsors may also help by donation cleanup supplies such as: gloves, safety glasses, earplugs, safety vests, and trash bags, tools for limb removal, large debris bags, and wheel barrels.

All donations of funds or supplies are tax-deductible.

We are also seeking sponsors for lunches that are provided to volunteers on cleanup days! If your business is able we would welcome donations of meals on cleanup days!

We are happy to be partnering with Catawba County who has offered guidance in what to remove and what to keep and City of Conover who has offered to assist in debris pickup. We are also excited to be partnering with Keep Catawba County Beautiful in spreading the word for volunteer recruitment and supplies needed for cleanup.

We can make a difference when we work together!
